Owning the outcome:
How employee ownership shapes our client work
Share this post
Two days before a creative campaign research study in Germany, the client calls our research team. Despite great clinical data, the entire launch indication was now in doubt.
There was real angst for the client. We stayed steady and took ownership.
We helped the client write a simple set of questions and weave them into the interviews with intention and logic. We aligned on how to make room for these now-critical questions so their international launch team could move forward. Linkers guided the client team through a discussion of how far a small qualitative dataset could take them. We evolved the stimulus, adjusted the translations, updated the guide, and nailed the interviews.
That’s ownership in action.
In 2024, The Link Group’s two founders retired and TLG became 100% employee owned. Now the people doing the work own the business, so everyone feels responsible when a project gets hard.
The person who runs into the problem finds the solution. The project stays with the team. It’s not passed up to someone more senior or off to someone new on the account.
Employee ownership shows up in small ways more than big ones. It’s the extra call to talk through a finding that challenges the hypothesis, instead of just writing it up and moving on. It’s flagging a flawed brief before the work starts, even when the client didn’t ask. It’s telling a client what they need to hear, even when it’s not what they want to hear, because avoiding it would mean the research wasn’t worth doing.
It also shows up in who’s still there. TLG’s turnover sits around 6%, in an industry where teams routinely turn over every year or two. The people who’ve been here the longest have sat through enough complicated projects to know which questions matter. They ask the sharp ones early, before a client has spent months building a strategy on a shaky answer.
None of this is written into our contracts. It’s a habit. When the business is yours, a client’s problem feels like your own name is on it. Because it is.
Ownership is part of why 99% of TLG’s clients stay and tell their friends about us. The people behind the research aren’t going anywhere, and they never treat the work as something to get through.
