Jim Pullen’s three decades of teamwork and growth

If you want to understand what makes The Link Group truly special, look no further than Jim Pullen.
As the firm’s longest-tenured team member and a Managing Partner, Jim has been here for every season of growth and change. His journey reflects what has always mattered most here: collaboration, humility, and deep trust in the people around him.
The enduring power of teamwork
Jim joined The Link Group back when just ten people crowded into the basement of the Atlanta office. From day one, one thing has remained constant: teamwork that goes far beyond project deadlines.
“We’ve been collaborative since the beginning,” Jim shares. “It’s not just about working together — we show up for each other outside of work too. In times of joy and times of sorrow, we’re there.”
That sense of connection isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s what allows people to bring their whole selves to work. It creates space to challenge each other, admit what we don’t know, and work together to solve complex problems for clients.
“That empathy and connection,” Jim says, “is a big part of why I’ve stayed here so long.”
How research has evolved and what remains timeless
Jim’s career has grown alongside the evolution of the research industry.
When he first started, almost everything was done in person, on paper, or by telephone. Today, digital tools make it possible to capture richer, real-time insights from a broader set of voices.
“The voice of the customer still matters most but how we engage with customers has evolved significantly,” Jim explains.
The tools may be different, but the purpose hasn’t shifted. For Jim, it’s always been about connecting leaders with real human perspectives and helping them turn those insights into action.
Leadership lessons learned with time
Jim’s leadership style has been shaped by years of hands-on experience. One lesson stands out: sometimes the greatest strength is simply being honest.
“Being comfortable saying ‘I don’t know’ is really empowering,” he shares. “It takes humility, and confidence in your peers, to realize you don’t have to have every answer.”
At TLG, that mindset is encouraged. Admitting you don’t know isn’t a weakness; it’s a commitment to figuring things out together.
That’s what creates psychological safety. It’s what allows the best ideas to rise and real collaboration to happen.
Learning agility and mastering complexity
The ability to quickly learn and tackle complex topics has helped shape The Link Group from a small consultancy into a full-service market research firm.
“I had no idea when I joined that we would develop mastery over such a wide array of complex subject matter,” Jim reflects. “We grew to see ourselves as more than we thought we could be, and a big part of that was realizing we could master any topic.”
This willingness to adapt and learn quickly is now baked into how The Link Group operates. It’s not just about keeping up, it’s about staying curious and pushing forward.
The mindset that shapes the team
What qualities keep a team strong over decades? For Jim, it’s all about a growth mindset and an openness to continuous improvement.
“Our success is built on a constant improvement and a lifetime learning mindset,” he says. “We don’t rest on our laurels. We celebrate success, but we don’t get complacent. That growth mindset drove our past success and is fundamental for our future.”
At TLG, curiosity is a big part of the culture. The drive to learn, iterate, and get better is what keeps the team sharp and evolving.
What keeps it energizing: The people
Jim’s source of excitement is, hands down, the team itself.
“I know that sounds cliché, but we have a freaking awesome team here,” he says with genuine enthusiasm. “That’s really our ‘secret sauce’—the Linkers that make things happen day in, day out, year after year. I show up to be part of the team, and I love this team!”
It’s that shared energy, trust, and care that makes The Link Group a place where people do their best work and where clients know they’re in good hands.
